Water Quality
Colorado River Water Conservation District Policy Statements:
1. The Colorado River Water Conservation District's primary objective with respect to water quality is to protect the ability of the District's residents to use water beneficially now and in the future. The District therefore will generally oppose management or regulatory measures that diminish the amount of water available for beneficial use within the District or restrict the ability of users to continue historical uses or to make future uses of water.
2. Water quality is an important factor in the ability of the District's residents to make beneficial use of water. The District therefore may advocate for and participate in the prevention or mitigation of those activities which adversely impact water quality and therefore threaten existing or future beneficial uses of water within the District.
3. Water quality regulations, classifications, and decisions should be based upon sound, scientific data and methodologies and should not impose unreasonable financial burdens or operational constraints on water users.
4. Nonpoint source water quality impacts should be addressed through voluntary measures. Accordingly, the District will encourage the voluntary implementation of Best Management Practices and may participate in nonpoint source water pollution control programs.
