The District was organized by special statute enacted in 1937 by the Colorado State Legislature.  It is charged with the duty of conserving, developing and safeguarding water resources within its boundaries.  The District is comprised of Delta, Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Gunnison, Mesa, Rio Blanco, Moffat, Pitkin, Routt, Ouray, Summit and those parts of Montrose, Hinsdale and Saguache Counties lying within the Gunnison River Basin, State of Colorado.
