WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER
The Colorado River District, located in Glenwood Springs,Colorado, is seeking candidates for a Water Resources Engineer. The River District is interested in a Water Resources Engineer that can fulfill a broad range of duties at the River District, including policy matters, project operations, water rights development, water quality, water supply modeling, and others. The ideal candidate is a registered professional engineer with 5 to 10 years of relevant experience with a demonstrated progression of career growth. An understanding and knowledge of Colorado water matters is preferred and water rights experience is a plus.
Works under direction of Chief Engineer.
Provides technical water resources engineering expertise in support of water right actions and administration.
Conducts regional and basin-wide water resource modeling activities in support of the organization's mission and goals.
Works with other technical staff on various aspects of projects including, but not limited to,contracting, permitting, facilitation, implementation, and/or construction.
Provides technical engineering and project management support for multiple projects at various phases of planning, design, development, implementation, construction and/or operation.
Coordinates organization's efforts with other governmental agencies and/or local entities, and participates in relevant programs, professional organizations, and committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supports engineering staff in the operation and management of the District's water supply projects and water marketing program including Wolford Mountain Reservoir and Elkhead Reservoir.
Provides technical support to Legal Department with respect to litigation, settlement matters, and Water Court cases including diligence filings on the District's conditional water rights.
Provides technical support to the organization in areas of river basin modeling and water supply planning.
Performs other work related duties as assigned by Chief Engineer.TYPICAL BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:
Registered professional engineer in the state of Colorado.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Hydrology or related field.
Five to ten years of demonstrated progressively responsible professional experience.
Possesses strong working knowledge of Colorado water law and the water resource engineering experience necessary to support and analyze complex water court actions and decree administration. Possesses water rights and water supply modeling experience and aptitude.
Possesses water project management and engineering experience, including design, operation and maintenance of water storage, diversion and delivery systems.
Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
Possesses ability to work with professionals, the public and other agencies.
Possesses advanced computer skills.
Substantial travel and a valid driver's license is required.
